2003 Fall Brushfires

 
Conditions that Fueled the Fires
Strong Off-Shore winds...known in Southern California as "Santa Ana Winds", combined with dry vegetation were the main factors in fueling the fires that charred 743,000 Acres between the period October 21st through November 14th.

  • Near 743,000 Acres Burned (Over 1,250 Square Miles)
  • +14,000 Firefighters fighting the fires
  • 25 Dead...including one firefighter
  • 3,640 Homes Destroyed
  • Fires burned in the following Southern California Counties... Los Angeles, Ventura, San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego. Additional fires Reported in Baja Mexico
  • Last Fire to be Declared 100% Contained was the Piru Fire in Ventura County. It was Contained at 8:00pm/pst, Friday, November 14th.
