Weekend dangers
There will be a continued threat of high swells and rip currents this weekend along the coastal waters of southern California.
The highest threat for rip currents will be the south facing beaches.
With these dangerous conditions... it is strongly advised that surfers and swimmers stay onshore.
Friday, August 25, 2006
High swells and high risk for rip currents will make for another dangerous day to surf and or swim along California coastal waters.
These condition will likely subside during the day Saturday.

Increasing swells and risk of rip currents
A south swell generated from a storm in the southern hemisphere will produce swells 3 to 4 feet about every 19 seconds along the much of the coast the next couple of days.
The Los Angeles and Ventura County coastal waters will be most prone to the high swells.
With the higher than normal surf will come the high potential of rip currents.
Swimmers and surfers are strongly advised to remain onshore the next couple of days.

Mountain/desert thunderstorms
A moderately moist and unstable airmass is in place over the southland.
With daytime heating and increased instability...another round of isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will be likely over the mountains and deserts...most numerous over the San Bernardino...Riverside and San Diego counties.
Thunderstorms will have the potential of producing... brief moderate to heavy downpours...locally gusty winds...and cloud-to-ground lightning strikes.
Tuesday, August 22, 2006
Isolated tstorms...mountains/deserts Tuesday
An increase in moisture from the east/southeast will likely trigger a few afternoon and evening showers or thunderstorms over portions of the southland Tuesday.
A chance of showers or thunderstorms will exist over the mountains/deserts of San Bernardino...Riverside and San Diego Counties. There's even a slight risk of a thunderstorm reaching into the foothills of the San Diego County valleys.

More Beach Dangers
A large portion of the San Clement shoreline is off limits due to high levels of bacteria due to a sewage spill.
No word when the shoreline will reopen to the public.
Also...
High potential of rip currents along the Orange and San Diego county coastline Wednesday.
Swimmers and Surfers are strongly advised to remain onshore.

Widespread marine layer
A deep marine layer had moved as far inland as the mountains this morning. Areas of drizzle will also be possible this morning.
Visibilities at times will be reduced to 1/4 mile or less over the mountains...especially through passes...and over the valleys of San Diego county.
The low clouds and fog will be slow to burn off this afternoon...with only parital clearing expected along portions of the coast.
