Showers and winds on the way.

(Choppers flying below the low stratus deck)

A Pacific storm system will bring increasing clouds to the southland Thursday along with a chance of showers beginning this afternoon over Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles counties...then spreading into the remainder of the region Thursday evening.

Rainfall amounts will be in the 0.10 to 0.25" range for the most part with snow possible in the mountains. Accumulations there will range from 1 to 3".

The big story with this storm...will be the strong and gusty winds that will develop behing the frontal passage later tonight and Friday.

This is starting to look like a fairly strong wind event for the southland.

Winds will aproach 70 mph or so...over the San Gabriels and San Bernardino's Friday morning through Friday evening... and 60 mph through and below passes and canyons of Ventura, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.

In the Santa Monica mountains and Hollywood hills... gusts to 45 mph are possible Friday morning through Friday evening.
