Building high pressure over the intermountain west will produce gusty off shore winds across the southland through mid-week.

The strongest winds will blow over the mountains and valleys...especially through and just below the passes and canyons. In these areas gusts to exceeding 55 mph are possible through New Years Day.

Due to the extremely dry conditions in combination with the winds... the fire danger over southern California will be at the critical stage.
