Showers to slowly diminish Wednesday

The upper level low pressure system is finally on the move...and should move east of the area by Thursday morning.

This will result in downtrend in shower activity through out the day on Wednesday across the region.

For Wednesday... the greatest areal coverage of showers will be in southern Orange and San Diego counties and portions of the Inland Empire during the morning hours...then become widely scattered during hte afternoon and evening hours.

In Los Angeles and Ventura counties... scattered morning hours will give way to partly sunny skies in the afternoon hours with isolated showers.

Increasing chance of rain Tuesday

The "Cut Off" Low that has been teasing southern California with rain is finally going to move east/southeast Tuesday and Wednesday.

This will result in an upswing of showers activity across the southland beginning late Tuesday morning and continue through at least early Wednesday morning...before diminishing.

Most locations across the southland will see amounts around 0.25"...but some favored mountain slopes and higher foothill communities may see amounts greater than 0.50"

Snow showers are likely above the 5,000 foot level over Ventura and L.A. counties with accumulations expected to be under 4".

Meanwhile... the snow level over the San Bernardino and Riverside county mountains will be around 5,500 feet with only light accumulations expected.

There is a small chance of thunderstorms over the coastal plain, valleys and coastal waters Tuesday and Tuesday night.

Thunderstorms will have the possibility of producing... locally gusty winds...brief heavy downpours...small hail and isolated waterspouts over the coastal waters.

Rainy Monday for some

The stubborn low pressure system over the central coast of California will continue to bring rain across portions of southern California on Monday.

The best chance of rain will continue to be from L.A. county north and westward...with some showers reaching Orange, San Diego counties and portions of the Inland Empire Monday afternoon.

The heaviest precipitation (rain and mountain snows) will continue to fall over Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.

Rainfall amounts in these areas will be around 1/2" or so through late Monday...with locally higher amounts along favored mountain slopes.

Showery Sunday

A slow moving low pressure system located Sunday morning along the central coast of California will bring showers and high elevation snows to the souhland through at least Monday morning.

Rainfall amounts will likely be around 0.50" in LA and Ventura Counties through Sunday night and around 0.10 to 0.25" in Orange, San Diego counties and the Inland Empire.

The NWS in Oxnard posted a Flash Flood Watch late Saturday afternoon for the 2005 and 2006 burn areas of Santa Barbara, Ventura and L.A. counties.

Early Sunday morning, A Snow Advisory was issued for the mountains of Ventura and L.A. counties...where 4 to 7" of snow is possible during Sunday.

Pattern Change

A pattern changes is in store for ther region this weekend as a low pressure (nearly stationary) along the central coast brings an increasing chance of rain or rain showers across southern California on Saturday.

Rainfall amounts will likely range from 0.10 to 0.20" across much of the southland Saturday.
Localized higher amounts along mountain slopes of Ventura and LA counties.


There will be a brief break in the showers Saturday and most of Sunday...before more rain showers move in on Sunday night and part of Monday.

A nice end to the week (weatherwise)

Fair weather to end the week here in SoCal.

There will be some patchy morning low clouds and dense fog along the coast from the south bay region of L.A. County northward to Santa Barbara County.

Otherwise... mostly sunny skies across the southland on Friday.

Temperatures will be slightly cooler than Thursday.

Temperatures reaching in the upper 60s at Downtown Los Angeles, upper 60s to the middle 70s across the OC, 60s along the coast and in the upper 60s in the L.A. County valleys...and in the 70s in the valleys of the IE.

Winds will be light (under 10 mph).

Fair weather to continue

High pressure aloft near the Colorado/Utah border along weak off shore flow will continue the fair and mild weather pattern over southern California for the remainder of the week.

Temperatures will continue several degrees above normal with temperatures reaching into the middle to upper 70s in the valleys and inland portions of LA county and the OC.

Meanwhile the immediate coast will see daytime temperatures in the middle to upper 60s for the most part.

Cumulus clouds are cloud in a shape of individual detached domes, with flat base to them. Often these clouds resemble a Cauliflower.

Here in SoCal there often seen during the summer months during the afternoon hours over the mountains and deserts.

Gusty winds will continue at least through early afternoon Tuesday afternoon across much of the southland.

The strongest winds will occur in the valleys of the Inland Empire and over the Santa Ana mountains and adjacent foothills.

In these areas winds will likely gusts to around 45 mph or so through early Tuesday afternoon...then dimishing later in the afternoon

Monday will be a carbon copy of Sunday in the southland.

Strong and gusty winds will continue during the morning...then diminish some during the afternoon hours.

As usual, the strongest winds will occure through and just below passes and canyons....where gusts to around 60 mph are a good possibility.

Elsewhere... gusts to around 35 to 40 mph in areas such as the LA and OC coastal plain...especially in areas such as the Hollywood and Anaheim Hills.

What a Surprise! More Winds

More winds for the southern California to starting Sunday and continuing through at least Monday afternoon.

The strongest winds will likely occur over the valleys just below the passes and canyons...and the mountains of L.A and Ventura counties. In these areas winds may gusts to 60 mph or so.

Elsewhere...LA and OC coastal areas and the mountains of San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego counties... gusts may reach 40 to 45 mph at times.

Remember the parking restrictions in L.A. county due to the Red Flag conditions.

Tinder dry conditions continue

Dry conditions continue to plague the southland.

Downtown Los Angeles has only recieved 1.32" of precipitation since July 1st. Thats 4.35" below normal.

Normally Downtown LA should of had 5.67" of rain.

There is increasing signs that this trend will continue for the remainder of the rainy season...as the El~Nino is weakening.

"Cut Off Low" to effect the southland again

The cut off low that was responsible bringing wintry weather to the southland on Wednesday, is once again to effect the weather for portions of SoCal on Friday.

As this system begins to track eastward...some precipitation will spiral across portions of southern California during Friday...mainly effecting areas of the OC, San Diego, San Bernardino and Riverside counties with isolated light rain showers and snow showers in the mountains (locally down to the 3,500 foot level this morning).

A stray shower is also possible over far eastern portions of Los Angeles County later Friday morning and afternoon...mainly the San Gabriel Valley, eastern portions of the San Gabriel mountains and eastern portions of Antelope Valley. Snow level in these locations may be start out at 2,500 feet or so then quickly rise to the 3,500 foot level during the afternoon.

Gusty winds will continue to blow across the valleys and mountains of Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego counties through mid-afternoon today.

Gusty may exceed 40 mph at times...especially during the morning and early afternoon hours.

The strongest gusts will likely occur through and just below canyons and passes.

Breezy conditions (15 to 25 mph) are also possible in the Santa Monica Mountains, Malibu...Chino and Hollywood Hills.

Showers possible for mid-week

A disturbance dropping south from central California will bring a chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms across the southland later Wednesday morning through early Wednesday evening.

Mostly of the showers during the daytime hours should be in Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties...then spread into the Inland Empire and San Diego county Wednesday evening.

Overall rainfall amounts will be on the lightside (mainly around a tenth of an inch).

Isolated thunderstorms may produce a waterspout or funnel clouds over the coastal waters.

The strongest winds will be experience in areas through and just below passes and canyons of Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties....where gusts to over 60 mph are possible.

This will effect driving conditions on the 5 FWY through the Grapevine... the 14 FWY through Soledad Canyon...and the 15 FWY through the Cajon Pass.

Light weight or high profile vehicles will be most prone to the high winds.

The big chill and winds

Like Sunday...many record low temperatures will likely be established Sunday (record low temperatues...and record low high temperatures)...and southern California continues under the Arctic air mass.

The lowest temperature every recorded on January 14th for the Downtown Los Angeles observation site is 37 degrees set in 1932.

At 3:00am Downtown L.A. had a temperature of 39 degrees...so it looks likely the at least a tie of the record low temperature this morning.

Meanwhile... Gusty winds are expected to develop late tonight and continue through most of Tuesday for area through and below passes and canyons over the Los Angeles, Ventura, San Bernardino counties.

Gusts may exceed 60 mph in above mentioned areas beginning late tonight.

In the Hollywood Hills and Santa Monica Mountains gusts to 30 mph are possible beginning late tonight.

As for the Road Runner picture... this has recently been rare site in the high desert...due to human growth driving away wildlife such as these birds.

It's Cold out there!!!

Very cold temperatures will continue through the weekend in southern California.

Overnight low temperatures will be in the 30s for Downtown L.A, but... dip into the upper 10s to around 30 in the valleys.

Widespread areas of frost are likely (especially in wind sheltered areas of the valleys and inland portions of the coastal plain).

Besure to cover up outdoor plants...and remember to bring your pets indoors.

The Big Chill has Arrived

The "Big Chill" has arrived!
...Cold temperatures with the possibility of light precipitation across the southland on Friday.

A cold (fairly intense) trought has dropped south and is located over the southern California.

This trough of low pressure will produce isolated to scattered showers...mainly areas of Orange, San Diego, San Bernardino and Riverside counties today. The snow level in these areas will range from 3,000 to 4,000'...but may lower below that level during the afternoon hours.

Meanwhile... Isolated to scattered rain and or snow showers are possible over the valleys and mountains of Los Angeles county...most numerous during the morning hours.

Snow showers above the 1,500 to 2,000 foot level over the San Gabriel mountains with the possibility of 3 to 6" total accumulations by the time it ends late in the day.

For the immediate LA area... expect temperatures today in the middle to upper 50s early this afternoon...then drop off by sunset to the lower 50s.
Breezy conditions (15 to 25 mph) are possible this afternoon.

Big Change on the Way!

Much colder temperatures on the way for southern California beginning Friday and likely continuing through the weekend.

Temperatures will lower to record levels for most parts of the southland Saturday and Sunday...with some valley locations dipping into the 20s during the overnight and early morning hours with temperatures only recovering into the 40s and 50s Saturday afternoon with slightly warmer temperatures on Sunday afternoon.

Precipitation will turn out not to be the big story with the trough. Most area only recieving 0.10 to 0.25" amounts through Friday evening.

The snow levels will drop down to 1,500 feet or so from L.A. County northward and 3,000 to 3,500' areas from San Bernardino County southward.

Only light accumulations are expected in the mountain areas (1 to 4" possible at the resorts).

There may be a few flurries down to some of the higher foothills of the Santa Clarita and San Gabriel valleys Friday. But no accumulation expected there.

It will be windy through Friday...especially over the mountains and desert areas.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for the mountains and deserts of San Bernardino...Riverside and San Diego counties until 8:00pm Friday.

Wintry blast on the way!

The coldest temperatures (for some in several years) are on tap for the late in the week.

A strong cold trough of low pressure will dive south into the southland by late Thursday into Friday.

This will bring very cold temperatures to the southland on Friday and continuing through the weekend.

Some precipitation will be possible starting late Thursday through Friday evening.

The snow level will drop to 1,500 feet Thursday night and Friday. But...unlikely any snow will accumulate down to those levels.

But... this will mean snow flurries will be possible along the foothills of the Santa Clarita, San Gabriel and San Fernando valleys...along with possible light dusting of snow in the Santa Monica mountains.

For LA and the OC... light rain showers are possible Thursday night and Friday. Temperatures on Friday in the lower to middle 50s for the most part...with lows in the middle to upper 30s on Friday night.

Winds finally diminishing

The strong and gusty winds that has fueled brushfires and brought unseasonably warm temperatures to the southland... are finally diminishing.

There still will be minimal advisory level wind gusts (around 40 mph or so) over the Los Angeles and Ventura county mountain areas Tuesday morning...but will decrease to around 20 mph in the afternoon.

Elsewhere across SoCal... winds will be in the 10 to 15 mph range Tuesday morning...then diminish to 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Another windy day...What's New?

Southern California will see another windy day on Sunday.

Gusty winds aproaching or exceeding 60 mph are possible over the mountains and some valley locations.

Elsewhere... gusts to 45 mph are possible along portions of the LA/OC coastal areas. Some of the most wind prone locations in these areas will be in the Santa Ana Canyon, Chino Hills, Santa Monica Mountains, Malibu Hills and the Hollywood Hills.

If your in Los Angeles County... remember the parking restrictions in the Hollywood Hills...due to the Red Flag fire conditions that currently exist.

Showers and winds on the way.

A Pacific storm system will bring increasing clouds to the southland Thursday along with a chance of showers beginning this afternoon over Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles counties...then spreading into the remainder of the region Thursday evening.

Rainfall amounts will be in the 0.10 to 0.25" range for the most part with snow possible in the mountains. Accumulations there will range from 1 to 3".

The big story with this storm...will be the strong and gusty winds that will develop behing the frontal passage later tonight and Friday.

This is starting to look like a fairly strong wind event for the southland.

Winds will aproach 70 mph or so...over the San Gabriels and San Bernardino's Friday morning through Friday evening... and 60 mph through and below passes and canyons of Ventura, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.

In the Santa Monica mountains and Hollywood hills... gusts to 45 mph are possible Friday morning through Friday evening.

Winds to start the new year

Another wind event on tap for the southland to ring in the new year.

A strong offshore flow will develop behind a upper level trough low pressure.

The strongest winds will likely occur over Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties later New Year's morning through mid-afternoon Tuesday.

Some locations...through and just below passes and canyons will likely see gust around 60 mph.

At this time... this doesn't look like a repeat of last week's strong wind event. Where some locations recorded wind gusts to near 100 mph.
