Look for scattered showers to dot the region.

Showers and winds for Tuesday

A weak frontal system will pass through the southland on Tuesday bringing scattered to numerous showers along with mountain snow showers down to 4,000'.

Also... gusty winds to over 60 mph are likely over the mountains and deserts of San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego counties Tuesday.

Rainfall amounts for the coastal and valley areas will likely total under one quarter of an inch.

Snow accumulations over the mountains will range from 1 to 2".

Windy monday over the mountains and deserts.

Strong and gusty winds will prevail over the mountains and deserts of San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego counties on Monday.

Winds in these areas may exceed 50 mph at times.

Stronger winds are possible Monday evening through Tuesday evening.
Gusts may exceed 60 mph at times in the above mentioned locations.

Lingering showers to end the week.

Cold air aloft behing the cold front that passes through the southland Thursday evening will the trigger for isolated to scattered showers on Friday.

The highest concentration of showers will occur during the morning hours across San Diego county.

An additional 0.10 to .20" is possible in San Diego county.

Elsewhere... rainfall amounts will be under 0.10" through Friday.

Frequent peaks of sun is likely from L.A. County northward through out the day on Friday along with high visibilities to take a peak of the snow covered mountains.

Big storm to bring unsettled weather to the southland

A larger storm system will spread rain and mountain snow across southern California Thursday and continue through Friday.

Precipitation:
Rain...moderate to heavy at times will likely over spread much of the southland Thursday afternoon...become widespread Thursday evening and overnight...and continue through Friday morning...then become more showery during Friday afternoon.

Rainfall amounts:
Coastal plain... 0.50 to 1.50"
Valleys... 0.50 to 1.50"
Mountains and foothills... 1.00" to 3.00"
Deserts... 0.25"

Snow....heavy at times will fall over the mountains Thursday and Friday.
Strong winds combined with fall snow will produce near "white out" conditions.

Snowfall amounts:
12 to 18" possible over the Ventura, Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Riverside county mountains.
6 to 10" possible over the San Diego county mountains.
3 to 7" possible over the Santa Ana mountains.

Wet storm on the way...

A moist storm system will bring moderate to occasional heavy rain to the southland Thursday through much of Friday morning...then begin to diminish during the afternoon.
Rainfall forecasts...
0.50 to 1.50"... coastal plain and valleys,
1.00 to 2.00"... foothills and mountains.
...A Flash Flood Watch may be needed for the 2005 an 2006 burn areas.
Cold, unstable air aloft will likely produce isolated thunderstorms...especially Thursday night and Friday morning.
Some of the storms may produce... small hail and isolated waterspouts over the coastal waters.
Significant snows are likely to fall over the mountains with accumulations reaching a foot or more by Friday afternoon.
A Winter Storm Watch in currently in effect from Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon for the mountains of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

Fair weather returns to the southland

Fair skies returns to the southland on Tuesday...but temperatures will continue on the cool side.

Forecast high temperatures on Tuesday...
Beach Cities... upper 50s to the lower 60s
Downtown LA/OC... middle 60s
Valleys... 60s

More unsettled weather on the way later this week...with potential moderate to locally heavy rainfall.

Rainy start to the week

A Pacific storm system will bring scattered to numerous showers to the southland Monday morning...then diminish from west/northwest by late morning and afternoon.

Mostly coastal and valley locations will see rainfall totals in the 0.25 to 0.50".
Locally higher amounts possible along the foothills and favored mountain slopes.


Isolated thunderstorms are possible Monday.
Thunderstorms will have the potential of producing... locally gusty winds to around 35 mph, brief moderate to locally heavy rainfall and infrequent lightning strikes.

Much cooler and turning unsettled

A trough of low pressure will begin to effect the southland on Sunday bring increasing Cirrus clouds along with much cooler temperatures (some 15 to 20 degrees cooler in some cases from Saturday's readings).

This trough will bring scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms beginning late Sunday and continue through much of Monday.

As of rainfall amounts over the coastal plain and the valley areas will likely be ¼" to ¾.

Windy and record warmth Saturday

Gusty winds will continue to blow through a good portion of southern California on Saturday as a moderate off shore flow continues.

The strongest winds will occur through and below canyons and passes of Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura and San Bernardino counties.

Gusts over 50 are not out of the question through early Saturday afternoon.

Other than a few cirrus clouds, skies will be mostly sunny with warm temperatures during Saturday.

Forecast high temperatures will reach again into the middle to upper 80s for downtown Los Angeles , middle 70s to the middle 80s in the valleys and in the middle 60s to the lower 70s at the beaches.

(The record high for downtown Los Angeles for Saturday, February 17th is 89 set back in 1890).

Windy and warm weather for Friday

Sunny, warm and windy conditions to end the work week here in the southland.

The strongest winds Friday will likely occur through and just below the passes and canyons of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
In these areas gusts may exceed 50 mph at times.

Some other areas will see gusty winds are the Santa Monica mountains and the Hollywood Hills.
Gusts to 40 mph are possible in these locations.

Temperatures will likely reach in the lower to middle 80s in Downtown L.A.
middle 70s to the middle 80s in the valleys and in the upper 60s to the middle 70s at the beaches.

Weak high pressure aloft and weak offshore flow will bring sunny and mild conditions to the region through Saturday.

For Thursday...
Mostly sunny skies.
Breezy to locally windy conditions....especially through and below passes and canyons.

lower to middle 70s downtown LA and the OC.,
70s in the valleys...and in the
middle 60s to the lower 70s at the beaches.

Weak off shore developing

A weak off shore flow will develop over the region for the remainder of the work week.
This will result in a warming trend and breezy to locally windy conditions through and below the passes and canyons.

For Wednesday...
Mostly sunny skies can be expected.
Locally gusty winds through mid-morning through and below the passes and canyons of Santa Barbara county.

Elsewhere... locally breezy conditions at times...through the passes and canyons.
Temperatures will remain on the cool side Wednesday.

Downtown Los Angeles will see highs in the upper 60s to the lower 70s on Wednesday...but on Friday will reach into the lower to middle 80s.


Looking ahead into the weekend and first part of next week...
...Models are still conflicting with eachother on exactly whats going take place...but right now the best guess will be a storm system will bring a chance of showers beginning sometime Sunday then continue on and off through at least Tuesday.

Mix showers and sun on Tuesday


Partly to mostly cloudy skies expected across the southland on Tuesday along with scattered showers.
This is due weak low pressure system moving east across the region.
Showers will be on the light space and cover only 30 to 40% of southern California at any given time Tuesday.
The greatest concentration of showers will be over San Diego county where preciptitation totals may reach 0.20" by Tuesday evening.
Over the remainder of southern California... amounts will range from 0.05 to 0.10".
Looking ahead the second half of the week...
...A weak off shore flow will develop over the southland, resulting in sunny skies and warmer than normal temperatures.
Breezy to locally windy conditions...especially through and just below canyons and passes.

The week ahead

A weak upper level disturbance will swing through the southland later today through Tuesday.
This system will bring scattered (mainly light) showers to the region.

Rainfall amounts will total under 0.25" through late Tuesday.

There will also be peaks of the sun at times.

Later in the week... a weak off shore flow will develop.

Look for mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies with temperatures some 10 to 15 degrees warmer than there on Monday.

Another disturbance may bring more unsettled weather to the southland this weekend. But... computer models are all over the place on this one... So as usual... stay tuned!

Showers and peaks of sun on Sunday

Scattered showers and some glimpses of the sun are in the forecast for the southland on Sunday...as an upper level system and associated frontal system moves through the region.

The most widespread rain will occur during the morning hours...then taper to isolated showers in the afternoon.

Rainfall amounts will be under 1/4" for the most part...except favored west facing mountain slopes may recieve amounts ranging 1/4 to 1/2".

Some peaks of sun are expected in the late morning and afternoon as the storm system moves to the east of our area.

Rain still on the way!

The southland should begin to see the rain in our northern counties (Santa Barbara and Ventura counties) during Saturday morning...then spread across the Los Angeles county in the afternoon.

The rest of southern California will likely only see a few isolated light rain showers during the afternoon.
Saturday night... Rain will be very widespread over the region in the evening...with rain tapering to showers during the overnight hours.
Sunday... showers will cover a great deal of the southland during the morning hours...then decrease in areal coverage in the afternoon.
Forecast rainfall amounts through Sunday...
Coastal and valley areasareas...
1/3 to 2/3" Los Angeles and Orange counties... will higher amounts further to the north in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties...
San Diego county will see amounts around 0.25"
Mountains and foothills...
1 to 2" over the mountains of Santa Barbara and Ventura counties...with higher mountains possible along favored mountain slopes...
0.75" to 1.25" mountains of Los Angeles county...
0.50" mountains of the Inland Empire....
0.25 to 0.50" mountains of San Diego county.

Some much needed rain on the way this weekend

Some much needed rain is on the way beginning Friday in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties then spread southward during Friday night into Ventura county then finally overspreading the entire southland during the day Saturday.

The rain should continue through Sunday morning...then begin to diminish Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening.

Rainfall at times will moderate to locally heavy.

Coastal and valley areas will likely recieve amounts ranging from a third to 3/4"
1 to 2" of rain is possible along west facing mountain slopes and foothills.

The NWS has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the burn areas of Ventura and Santa Barbara counties beginning Saturday morning and will continue through Sunday morning.

Foggy Thursday morning

Another foggy morning across the southland.

The difference from Wednesday morning is that the fog and low clouds are more widespread...into the valley areas.

Several locations this morning...will see visibilities reduced to one quarter mile or less...which will make for a difficult morning commute.

Visibilities will likely improve in most areas by mid-morning with good visibilities in all areas by 10:00am or so.

Storm to brush parts of the southland Wednesday

(Sunrise - February 6th, 2007)

The northern parts of the southland will be brush by a weak weather system that will move inland over the northern portion of the state.

Expect a gloomy day across the region. A few light rain showers are possible this afternoon and tonight over Los Angeles and Ventura counties. A better chance of showers over Santa Barbara county.

Meanwhile, Orange, San Diego, Riverside and San Bernardino counties wont see any precipitation from the system.

The entire southland will have a better shot of rain late Friday through the weekend...as 2 weather systems are expected move inland over southern and central California.

What a difference a day makes!

Temperatures across the southland will be some 15 to 20 degrees cooler Tuesday from Monday.

Forecast daytime temperatures across the southland on Tuesday will be in the lower to middle 70s for downtown Los Angeles...
70s for inland Orange County...
70s to the lower 80s in the valleys...
and in the middle to upper 60s at most beach cities.

Skies will be partly cloudy coastal areas with early morning low clouds and fog.
Mostly sunny skies in the valleys.

Winds will be light around 5 mph for the most part.

Warm start to the new week

Another potentially record breaking day (temperature-wise) across the southland on Monday.

High temperatures will reach into the middle 80s for inland metropolitan Los Angeles and Orange counties.

80s to around 90 out in the valleys.

70s to the lower 80s at the beaches.

Light and variable winds for the most part...except some breezes below canyons and passes to around 15 mph or so.

Models are still in disaggreement on exactly what will later this week into early next week.

Some models are suggesting the the weather pattern will set up to a prolong period of rain and other are saying that the bulk of the moisture will stay north toward central and northern California.

Warm Sunday!

A warm/sunny Sunday is ahead for southern California.

Temperatures should reach into the lower 80s for Downtown L.A. and inland OC.

The valleys will see temperatures in the upper 70s to the upper 80s.

For the beaches... temperatures will in the 70s.

Light and variable winds.

A major change in the weather pattern likely for the end of the week into the first part of the following week.

Ground Hog Day 2007 Weather for SoCal

Ground Hog day across the southland will be mostly sunny and mild.
(By the way, the ground hog didn't see his shadow... which means spring is around the corner).

Some patchy early morning low clouds and fog are possible near the coast and in some valley locations...mainly from L.A. county northward.

Daytime high temperatures will be around 70 for inland L.A. county...middle 60s for interior OC...lower to middle 60s at the beach cities...and in the middle 60s to the lower 70s out in the valleys.

A potential big change in the weather pattern by the middle to later part of next week...as the high pressure breaks down and allows a west/southwesterly flow to bring unsettled weather to the southland.

One of the driest rainy seasons on record for LA

For Los Angeles and for all of southern California...this is one of the driest rainy seasons on record.

For the downtown L.A. observation site at USC...
...So far for the rainy season 1.50" have fallen.
...This is 21% of normal.
...7.12" of rain is the normal amount L.A should have recieved so far.
...This ranks as the 6th driest rainy seasons on record since records begun in 1877.
