Soggy and windy weather for the southland this weekend
Update: 10:25am. Friday. January 04. 2008
Rain and strong winds have already move into San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties with showers over Ventura county as of late Friday morning.
The main event for the southland comes Friday evening and Saturday morning...as the flow will turn to the south and bring widespread "locally heavy" rains to the region. Hourly rainfall rates along the coastal plain and valley areas may exceed 1/2" at times and locally over 1" along the favored south/southwest facing mountain slopes and foothills.
This will have the potential of producing flash flooding and mud or debris flows... especially in the recent burn areas.
Along with the rains... Winds will be a problem. Gusts to over 60 mph are likely to occur... especailly over the mountains and portions of the high desert region.
Gusts may exceed 35 mph at times along the coastal plain and valleys Friday night through Saturday morning.
Later in the weekend...
Another "colder" impulse will bring another round precipitation and winds to the southland Sunday into Monday morning.
Precipitation is not expected to be near the intensity of Friday night/Saturday mornings event... but rainfall along the coast and valleys may reach 1".
Snow levels will drop well below the resort levels with Sunday's storm (locally down to 3,500 feet over the northern ranges).
