Trio of storms to affect the southland through the weekend
Three storms will bring unsettled conditions from the desert to the sea through the weekend.
The strongest of the three storms will begin to the affect the southland beginning Friday afternoon and continue through much of Saturday..
This storm system will bring widespread rain...heavy at times along with strong and gusty surface winds and snow to the higher elevations.
Storm 1 (tonight and Friday morning) and storm 3 (Sunday and Sunday night) will bring light to occasional moderate rainfall to the region.
The snow levels with the storm 1 will be above the resort levels... but will drop significantly with the storm 3 on Sunday... locally down to 3,500 to 4,000 feet.
Forecast Rainfall amounts...
Coastal and valley areas: 2 to 5 inches (locally 6" in Santa Barbara county south coast and Ventura county)
Foothills and mountains: 4 to 8 inches. (local amounts above 10" on favored south/southwest facing mountain slopes)
High Deserts: 1 to 2 inches
Low Deserts: 3/4 to 1 inch
These rainfall amounts have the likelyhood of producing flooding and mudslides... especially in the recent burn areas.
Strong winds will be associated with the storms (especially storm 2 Friday night through Saturday). Gusts exceeding 60 mph are possible over the mountain and over 50 mph in some desert locations.
