EarthQuake Preparedness Week

April 17th through 21st, 2006

What to do if a quake hits...
If your inside -
  • Drop to the floor, get under an heavy and secure object such as a table or desk.
  • Protect yourself from objects that may injure you.
If your outside -
  • Move away from buildings, power lines, trees etc. that might fall on you.
If your driving -
  • Pull over to the side of the road and stop in a safe area, not under a bridge, or on a overpass, or under a light pole or a tree.
  • Stay inside your car, as you are more protected from falling debris.
  • As you resume driving, watch for downed power lines and poles, cracks in the roads, fallen rocks or boulders. Stay away from bridges, they may appear in tact, but may not be.
  • If a electric line is on or near your car, stay inside the vehicle until help arrives.
  • If your in hilly or mountainous areas...watch for rocks, boulders, landslides or loose debris.
Gas Leaks-
  • Find the main valve...shut and keep the valve off.
  • Let the gas company turn it back on.
