On shore winds
Usually produced by a trough to the west of California.
The Main effects...
  • Near to slightly below normal temperatures.
  • Areas of low clouds and fog.
Off shore winds
Usually produced by an area of high pressure over the Great Basin or interior west.
The Main effects...
  • Warmer than normal temperatures.
  • Low Humidity and Dewpoint.
  • Gusty Santa Ana or Sun Downer winds...if pressure gradient is tight.
